Propagated Propaganda

I've noticed a disturbing trend happening in American television and films of late. Ever since France declared it's opposition to the US and UK backed resolution to invade Iraq, there has been an emergence of 'villainous' French characters and references that paint the French in a particularly treacherous light.

A recent, though I'm not sure how current outside of South Africa, episode of 'Reba' saw the mother figure take sides with her daughter. The step-mother said "Thanks, France." Implying a that a current of betrayal runs through the French as a whole.
A movie moment from the highly entertaining 'The Incredibles' illustrates the only villain (other than 'Syndrome') as a Frenchman while all of the superhero types were American.
Another moment in film is in 'Ocean's Twelve' - although I enjoyed the film for what it is. The 'Nightfox', a cunning, underhanded, careless, and all-round-dislikeable, French masterthief loses out to a group of suave American nice-guys.

Another case in point: These Colours Don't Run.

I would not object to seeing a few instances of careless, inhumane, bloodthirsty American character's coming up short.
